The Professional Development Instructional Design Internship Program.
Professional Objective
Creation, design, development, and initiation of the Professional Development Instructional Design (PD/ID) Internship Program. Addresses the needs of Central Piedmont Community College's professional development online programs or projects by leading and managing a team of graduate level intern instructional designers/developers. Objective includes examination of the initiation, planning, and closure of instructional development projects that may be requested by any department College-wide. Goal is to manage project scope, work structure, schedules, instructional design work, and resources of the interns, while providing a mentorship to their goals in the profession of instructional design in higher education or corporate training.
Program Purpose
The Professional Development Instructional Design (PD/ID) Internship Program introduces graduate level (Masters and/or Doctoral) instructional designers, or media content developers, to the field of instructional technology. Interns are involved in a Central Piedmont Professional Development project or combination of projects relating directly to instructional design concepts, theories, and multi-media development. Interns have a rigorous and demanding curriculum that spans 1 semester built to refine their practical skills in instructional design and development. This internship addresses the needs of both Professional Development and the College by the creation of high quality, interactive, 24/7 online learning for faculty and staff. This Internship Program is aligned with Central Piedmont strategic goal 2 (Promoting academic excellence through community engagement and partnerships) and goal 3 – (Advancing our organizational culture). Team members include the program director, instructional design intern(s), graphic designer, learning outcomes assessment strategist, and program coordinator. Provisional team members include project stakeholders and SMEs (clients), quality reviewers, and pilot group participants.
